A Pleasant Hill man won a $10,000 prize in the January 2nd Hot Lotto.

Ray Sears, 65, didn’t know it until he went to buy some more tickets. He routinely validates the previous week's tickets at the counter, only this time he came out a little richer.

“The Casey’s ladies were really thrilled,” Sears said.

Referring to his wife, he added, “We’re both retired, so we’re just going to do what we want with it,”

Sears claimed his prize on January 7th at the Iowa Lottery’s headquarters in Des Moines.

Sears was only one ball away from winning nearly $8.5-million but missed out on the Hot Ball. The winning numbers that night were: 2-15-21-29-36 and Hot Ball 5.
