Iowa Education Officials say some national test results have them worried.
The National Assessment of Education Process released their results for vocabulary on Thursday, and Iowa’s scores were not much to boast about.
Scores declined significantly from 2009 to 2011 at the 4th grade level and remain stagnant for 8th graders.
NAEP’s vocabulary report represents the first comprehensive look at how well the nation’s students understand word meaning.
Despite the decline, Iowa students are still scoring above the national average.
State Education Director Jason Glass say the scores only underline the importance of carrying out major education reforms they have been pushing for at the state level.
