KETTLE THEFTS: Salvation Army Plans Checks
Salvation Army officials met Monday to discuss ways to keep red kettles safe.
Since the kettle campaign started earlier this month, two kettles have disappeared.
An empty kettle was taken from the Hy-Vee at Southeast 14th and Park on November 15th and last Friday a second was stolen from the Walmart on Mills Civic in West Des Moines. It contained an unknown amount of cash.
Authorities say they’ll now do unscheduled checks of the most visited kettles when there are no bell ringers on the job.
The Salvation Army stresses for the plan to work volunteers must show up for their shifts.
