Stage 1 of Des Moines Water Works conservation plan remains in place despite lower water use over the weekend.
Last Tuesday, consumption hit a record 96.6 million gallons. That same day, the Des Moines Water Works asked everyone to cut use by 10-percent. Water use has decreased, with a usage of 68.5 million gallons Saturday and 66 million gallons Sunday.
“Our daily target water use under State 1 remains to stay below 81 million gallons,” says Randy Beavers, CEO of Water Works.
Water Works is still asking its customers to keep usage down.
“Mondays tend to be one of the higher water use days of the week as households catch up with laundry and garden/flower watering after a busy weekend. So daily water use variability is expected. We continue to emphasize that anyone working and recreating outside stay hydrated and cool down as needed,” says Beavers.
